Curriculum Statement
At St Botolph’s CEVC Primary School we have designed an exciting and engaging curriculum which is broad and balanced. Subjects build on the knowledge and skills of all children, whatever their starting points, as they progress through each subject area in every Year group. Staff have planned deliberate links across the curriculum, so that children have clear opportunities to apply their learning in different contexts and subjects.
Our curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014 and our school values which best meet the learning and developmental needs of the pupils in our school. The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite knowledge and skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for the next stage of their education.
At St Botolph’s it is important that our curriculum does not only concentrate on academic success but promotes high expectations through the development of the whole child. We offer a range of lunchtime and after school clubs that provide the children with opportunities to expand the breadth of their curriculum experience.
School visits, local trips and visitors to school are used to enrich our curriculum.
The school’s Christian Values (Friendship, Courage, Respect, Forgiveness, Truthfulness and Thankfulness) and the British Values (Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance) underpin our curriculum. The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils and their understanding of the core values of our school are woven throughout our curriculum and in the way we interact with one another and conduct ourselves during the school day.
Our curriculum is enriched by a strong sense of genuine community which actively supports the school by providing moral and spiritual expertise via the local church. Our Friends committee (a parent group) enhances the sense of community by working in partnership with the school to bring families and friends together to celebrate important occasions illustrating the value of spending quality time together. Parent and community volunteers support the school throughout the year both in and outside of the classroom.
